Irish Men’s Shed Leader to Visit Mayo

Mr. John Evoy, CEO Irish Men's Sheds Association, will visit Mayo on Thursday 6th December to promote the development of Men's Sheds within the County. The Irish Men's Shed movement which originally began in Australia has been developing rapidly over the past year and there are now approximately 90 sheds in Ireland. In Mayo there are now Men's Sheds established in Castlebar, Ballina, Belmullet and Newport with further plans in Ballinrobe, Claremorris and other parts of the County.

A Men's Shed is a community-based, non-commercial organisation which is open to all men where the primary activity is the provision of a safe, friendly and inclusive environment where the men are able to gather and/or work on meaningful projects at their own pace, in their own time and in the company of other men and where the primary objective is to advance the health and well-being of the participating men. Men's sheds may look like a shed in your back yard but they can be seen as an innovative mix between community education and health promotion projects.

A public information evening on the Men's Shed concept will be held on Thursday 6th of December at 8pm at the GMIT, Castlebar. This information evening is free of charge and open to all. Booking is not necessary.
