Salmon Angling

River Moy

Fishing on the Moy improved further with a few more fish reported from the Ballina Salmon Anglers' water and the East Mayo Association water. Local angler, Micksey Clarke, was amongst the lucky ones with a fine spring fish of 9 lbs. With milder weather ahead and water levels dropping angling conditions should improve further in the coming weeks.

Carrowmore Lake

Anglers on Carrowmore Lake enjoyed another very good week of spring salmon fishing. A total of 13 salmon (2 released) were caught for the week averaging 8 lbs. Amongst the successful anglers were Martin Reuland, Belmullet, Vincent Rigney, Westport, John O'Connor, Navan and John McBride from Northern Ireland. Successful flies included Thunder & Lightning, Green Peter, various Shrimp patterns as well as ½ inch tube flies.

Lough Beltra

Salmon fishing on Lough Beltra also picked up during the week. Glenisland Anglers Co-Operative report two fine salmon of 15 lbs. and 12 lbs. for two visiting anglers. Other successful anglers included Jackie Deffley who caught and released a fresh 9-pounder and Brian Gallagher who had a fine sea liced fish of 6 lbs. (also released). Most successful flies were Beltra Badger and Hairy Mary.
