Ballin Lough Trout Fishery Now Open All Year Round

The Ballin Lough Trout Fishery is situated 4km north of Westport and is now open to angling year round. This marks a significant step in the development of the angling product in the North West, as prior to the removal of the closed season on this lough, there was no trout fly-fishing available during the winter months in this area.

Ballin Lough is managed as a Rainbow Trout Fishery by the North Western Regional Fisheries Board. It is 22 hectares in size and sits over rich limestone making the lake extremely productive. The Lough has recently been stocked with quality locally sourced rainbow trout, between 1 and 1.5 kg. Angling on the lake is from boats available at the lough and is fly only. Ballin Lough rainbows are renowned as hard fighting fish and provide great sport.

Day and evening permits are available and include boat hire. To book, contact Mrs. Gill on 098-26128. Further information on Ballin Lough Trout Fishery is available from the Board at 096 22788 or from the Board’s website at www.northwestfisheries.ie.
