St. Pats BNS wins Something Fishy Award

Castlebar School wins Regional "Something Fishy" Award.

St. Pat's Boys National School, Castlebar produced an entertaining and extremely educational project and DVD showing their investigation of local and global fish farming issues, techniques and conflicts and also the importance of fish farming to local industry and the community.

"Something Fishy" is an educational resource promoted by the Central and Regional Fisheries Boards in collaboration with Blackrock Education Centre, Dublin. The programme is operated in the North Mayo area by the North Western Regional Fisheries Board in conjunction with Mayo Education Centre. Just last year, Breaffy National School, Ballina, Co. Mayo, took the national award and picked up valuable prizes sponsored by the Fisheries Boards.

The project from St. Pat's Boys N.S was put forward to represent the County of Mayo in the National competition and we await with anticipation the results of that competition.

Bangor Erris N.S. took second place with its project detailing the importance of local fisheries to the community. Many pupils who participated in the project also actively angle in their local river. Scoil Pádraig Naofa, Louisburg, won third place.
