Action from a juvenile anglers’ competition on Ballin Lough earlier in the 2009 season.

Despite the time of year, unpredictable weather and quickly decreasing day length, Ballin Lough continued to fish brilliantly for those who have ventured out. The fishery closed for angling on the 31 October but, during the previous week, the fishery produced 65 rainbow trout for the 11 rods which fished it. A total of 46 of these trout were safely released. Andy Young, Dublin and K McGing had a total of twenty rainbows, eighteen of these being released with the best fish at 3.5lbs while Martin Walsh and Paddy Blaney, Westport, had a total of 18 trout, all safely released with the best fish weighing in at 4lbs. Finally a Mr Freestone, Crossmolina had a total of eight trout with his best at 3lbs. The best flies for the week on Ballin Lough were again the Bibio, Daddies, Olives and Buzzers.
