River Moy

The River Moy continued to fish reasonably well over the week, where the Moy Fishery yielded 38 salmon and the Moy system, 172. The Ridge Pool produced 11, with Brian McGlashan, Scotland and Andrew Pearson, England, both catching and releasing two on the fly. The Cathedral yielded 12, including three for Jude Nevin, Longford. The Spring Wells had 6 for the week, with one of 5lbs for George Dawson, N.I. On the Ash Tree Pool, 6 in total were caught, with one for Gerard Portes, France, and one for Reto Coutalides, Switzerland. The Point and the Community Beat also produced a few salmon.

The Ballina Salmon Anglers' water yielded fish, and angling at Mount Falcon was good. The Knockmore water had a reasonably successful week, with Attymass and Coolcronan also fishing well. At Coolcronan, Billy O'Malley, N.Ireland had two salmon, one on the spinner with the second falling to the worm. Armstrong's, Gannon's and the Foxford Fishery enjoyed a reasonably successful week. At Foxford, Jack Mc Donnell, Carlow, had two to the worm, while Ben McQuillan, Dublin had his first fly caught salmon.

Rinanney fished well, while the Foxford town waters and Cloongee also produced their share. At Cloongee, Hans Hulverscheidt, Germany had a nice fish of 10lbs to the worm. The East Mayo Anglers' water also fished well, where Manfred Kauert, Germany, had one of 7lbs to the fly, with Dave Price also catching one on the fly.


Ballisodare Fishery
At Ballisodare, a total of 9 fish were caught by 8 anglers for the week. Three fish were taken by visiting anglers John Sheratt, John Keynon and Thomas Andrew. Productive flies on the system included the Bann Special and the Moy Green with good numbers of salmon observed entering the system throughout the week.

 

Lough Arrow
Lough Arrow continued to live up to its reputation of producing good angling into September, with some anglers enjoying good sport throughout the week. Fishing wet flies, Peter Dunn had two trout of 2.25lbs and 2.5lbs, while Brendan Smith had two of 2lbs each. George Conway enjoyed good success, boating a trout of 2lbs, and a fine trout of 4.5lbs.

 

Ballin Lough
Angling effort and catches have slowed somewhat on Ballin Lough, with 11 anglers reporting only six trout for the week. Among those to have success were Pat Murphy and friend, who had two trout, with their best 2.5lbs. Mattie Foley and friend also had success catching two, with their best also 2.5lbs, while Paul Morgan also had two, his best weighing 3lbs. Productive flies included Dabblers, black Ace-of-spades and the Buzzard.
