Pike Angling

Bilberry and Lannagh Angling Club recently held its annual Pike Angling Competition in conjunction with IFI Ballina, with 34 rods taking part. A total of 99 pike were caught on the day, with a combined weight of 315.5lbs. Catching the heaviest fish was Brian Kelly, who boated a fine pike of 23.7lbs. In first place in the competition, winning the heaviest bag was Joe Halligan and Gerry Fitzsimons, Enniscrone, who boated ten pike for 42.2lbs. Second place went to Billy McDonnell and Martin Connor, who caught the greatest number of pike, 12 in total for a combined weight of 17.8lbs. Third place went to the second heaviest bag, won by Gerry Ward and Brian Kelly, with 9 pike weighing 40.5lbs.

Elsewhere, twelve year old Callum Press, Enniscrone enjoyed great success recently while fishing with his grandfather and local angling guide Kenny Sloan. Fishing with a drifted float and large mackerel, young Callum hooked and successfully boated his first ever pike, a fine fish of 15lbs. This was followed later in the day by a second pike of 8lbs.
