Decorative Arts and History, Collins Barracks, Dublin 7

The four sites of the National Museum of Ireland are actively participating in the Council of National  Cultural Institutions (CNCI) Open Week which takes place from 12-20 February 2005. This Open Week has been co-ordinated by the Education Community and Outreach Working Group of the CNCI as a way of alerting the public to the services and activities available in our national cultural institutions and to highlight the work being done to make our national heritage more accessible.

Free guided tours of each of the National Museum of Ireland sites will be available daily throughout the open week. In addition, the National Museum of Ireland's Education Resource Rooms* will be open all week to visitors to drop in and meet the Education and Outreach staff.  Find out what services are available to you by picking up copies of the calendar of events and other information leaflets.  Explore material and objects from the handling collection and discover and learn more about the Museum's collections through hands-on activities.  Come and see the display of photographs of previous projects and events organised through the Education and Outreach Department.
*Please note there is no Resource Room at the Natural History Museum.

The Council of National Cultural Institutions (CNCI) was created in 1998, formally established under the Heritage Fund Act (2001), and reports directly to the Minister for Arts, Sports and Tourism.  The Council's membership consists of the Directors / Chief Executives of the following institutions:
* The Arts Council
* Chester Beatty Library
* Heritage Council
* Irish Museum of Modern Art
* National Archives
* National Concert Hall
* National Gallery of Ireland
* National Library of Ireland
* National Museum of Ireland
* National Theatre Society Ltd. (The Abbey Theatre)

The CNCI exists to facilitate professional exchange and partnerships between the directors and the member institutions to their mutual benefit and to the benefit of cultural life in Ireland generally. Its current work programme includes exploration of 'Education, Community, Outreach' (ECO) as an area of common interest and benefit to all ten institutions within CNCI.
