Thursday the 11th of July saw the very successful launch of Eimear Mc Bride's debut novel, 'A Girl is a Half Formed Thing' in The Castle Bookshop, Castle Street, Castlebar. Signed copies are available at The Castle Bookshop.

Eimear Mc Bride's debut novel, 'A Girl is a Half Formed Thing' is a wonderfully written debut novel. It takes the reader insider the narrator's head. This should be of particular interest to us Castlebar folk, as it just so happens that the narrator is a girl who grew up in Castlebar in the 80s.

Although Castlebar is not specifically mentioned, it is clear as as the book progresses through the narrator's teenage years, that it is a town in The West of Ireland.

The reader will appreciate the passage where the narrator describes skipping school during a school football match.

One has to invest some time in this book, it will probably takes you a chapter or two to become familiar with the style of the book. However, this will be more than worthwhile. Eimear Mc Bride has written a wonderful book, and it gives the reader a most enjoyable and unique experince.
