A large group from Castlebar campaigning for city status are calling on the Town council to change the road signs around Castlebar from "town centre" to "city centre".
A spokeswoman for the group has said this will help Castlebar on its bid to become a city.

The group thinks this town deserves it above any other because it is has a home grown population unlike other large commuter towns such as Bray, Drogheda and Navan.

The group is calling upon people from the "city" to use the term city as often as possible.

The group is also hoping a local TD will make a proposition for the Castlebar City campaign in the Dáil.
