The management team at the Royal Quarter is delighted to announce the appointment of Martina Nicholson as the Sales Director of the Mayo Convention Centre.

A native of Donegal, Martina has been with the Harlequin Hotel since 2012, where she has occupied the role of Revenue and Marketing Manager. Martina will bring a wealth of experience to the position and is looking forward to a bright future for the Mayo Convention Centre. The hospitality industry is well and truly in her blood with 20 years of hotel experience. Prior to working at the Harlequin Hotel, Martina worked for five years as a Manager at the Athlone Springs Hotel, one of the Midlands main Conference venues, as well as experience at the Menlo Park Hotel and Conference Centre Galway.

Martina says of her new position ‘I am really excited about the new role and the challenge of getting the Mayo Convention Centre focused to become a recognised brand and major player on the conference circuit, both in Ireland and abroad'.

With the excellent facilities already in place at the Royal Theatre and the Ruby Room, combined with the on-site four-star Harlequin Hotel, along with Boots and Shaw's Department Store and the multi-story carpark, Martina feels that the venue will be of a major consideration to companies and groups looking to hold conferences and events in the Castlebar and Westport area.

Seamus Sutcliffe, Group CEO, advised that it is the intention of the new management team based at the Royal Quarter to fully concentrate on promoting the conference and events business in the medium term. The facilities that are available to delegates attending the Mayo Convention Centre are second to none, and with the additional attributes of both Castlebar and Westport, and indeed the facilities at the Ireland West International Airport, the overall experience will be very positive.

Seamus has indicated that there has already been considerable interest from a number of parties looking to locate to Castlebar and Westport for their annual conferences, and one conference in particular, for 2016, has a requirement for 1,000 bedrooms per night, over three days. Securing a conference of this size will have a significant effect on the local economy.
