Hurling-Suck Valley League U-16

Ballinasloe: 2-5 - Castlebar Mitchels: 0-3

Castlebar Mitchels went down to Ballinasloe in their second game of the campaign. All through the tie was tightly contested with little between the two sides in general play. However Mitchels found it difficult to get scores on the board all through. A fortuitous early goal gave Ballinasloe an advantage they never lost. Despite an amount of possession Castlebar could not register scores and the home side tagged on a further goal and point to lead by seven points at half time.

Mitchels upped the pace in the second half but missed a couple of good goal chances. Points by Shane Queenan, Tony Sweeney & Art O'Suilleabhain were matched by Ballinasloe who ran out deserving winners in the end

Barry Lane did well in goal with good displays from, Joseph Redmond, Sean King and Bernard Kennedy in defence.  Darragh O'Malley did well at midfield while David Bell, Laurence Kenchington and Art O'Suilleabhain were the pick of the attack

U14 Suck Valley League

Ballinasloe: 1-6 - Castlebar Mitchels: 0-1

Mitchels U14s suffered their second defeat in this year's league, going down by 8 points to Ballinasloe. In a competitive first half, the Castlebar boys had plenty of the possession, but couldn't convert their chances into scores. They trailed at the break by a single point.

The home side added 1-5 without reply after the break. Nevertheless, this was a much improved performance by Castlebar and, missing some big players, gives hope for the year ahead. Tackling and hassling improved, while work needs to be done on lifting and striking.

Best for Castlebar were Ronan Byrne, Shane Nugent and Conor Murphy.

Castlebar : M Parsons, C Murphy, S Nugent, B Crowley, S King, C McManamon, K Feeney, G Dunne, R Byrne, O Ralph, C Scahill (0-1), J Gallagher, C Gallagher, A Abbasi, E Mulkerrin, M Browne.
