Castlebar Pantomime Launches its 20th Anniversary Website

Castlebar Pantomime is celebrating their Twentieth Anniversary with a production of “Panto At The OK Corral at the TF Royal Theatre 19th to 23rd January 2005. To coincide with the 20th Anniversary celebrations, Castlebar Pantomimes PRO Karen Conway is compiling a visual history of this amateur production group dating from 1951 to 1965 & to the revival of Castlebar Pantomime from 1986 to its 20th year in 2005.  Currently the on site material is untitled but it is intended that this will be rectified in the near future.


In association with local website facilitators Aniar Solutions of Moneen, Castlebar along with contributions from past & present Pantomime members, Castlebar Pantomime wish to announce the launch of their historical website at from the 12th January 2004. To date a smaller site had been hosted by the  Further to the continuing support & assistance of those within the site we are pleased to announce that that have agreed to reflect the material presented on the new Pantomime website. Sincere thanks are extended to for all their assistance in the past & it is hoped that their association with Castlebar Pantomime will continue into the future. So what can you look forward to seeing in this new historical site? 


For those of you, who have been involved in Pantomime, attended the shows since 1951 or just curious, approx 1000 photographs, programmes, media reports & Pantomime history of the all the shows down the years have been uploaded for your enjoyment. Many members of the public & Pantomime have contributed to this visual history. These include Mrs Ita Wynne, Kathleen Conway, Beatrice (Conway) Keville, Herbie Glynn, Val Donegan, Garry Wynne, Billy Irwin & Lar Davis who contributed material from 1951 to 1965. Also Nan Monaghan, Rowena Gillespie, Marion Deacy, Mary Kerrigan, Clare Kenny, Marina Rice, Fiona Kilbane, Sharon Lavelle, Nicola Reilly, Karen Conway, Denise Hynes, John Hynes, Stephen Burns, Adrian Gavin, Jackie Loftus, Fr. Des Fahey & Jason Guthrie who have contributed material from 1986 to the 20th Anniversary 2005.


Professional photographers who kindly agreed to have their work included on the website are Frank Dolan, Paul Heverin, Michael Donnelly, Con Connolly & Ken Wright.  Sincere thanks are extended to all contributors for the material submitted & the memories they have evoked. Thanks are also extended to the Editors of our local papers Connaught Telegraph, Mayo News, Western People & to Joe Redmond of the Castlebar Parish Magazine, who kindly agreed to the use of their media cuttings within the website.   

If any further material is available regarding the Panto years from 1951 to 2004, please forward to Sharon Lavelle at Flannelly Insurance’s, Market Square, Castlebar. Or, contact her at 094) 9023193. In particular material from 1951 to 1965 is required but especially requested are photos, media cuttings etc. from 1959, 1997 & 1998. All documents will be added to the Castlebar Pantomime history which is currently being complied & will be returned. The assistance of the public, former Pantomime members or their families would be most appreciated in recording this unique local tradition.
