Castlebar Rotary Club
Rotary Fire Safety Project
14, Mar 2007 - 23:41

Volunteers from Castlebar Rotary Club undertook an unusual and very useful community project recently. The project involved installing Smoke Alarms in 33 houses in one housing estate in Castlebar.  It had been established, by the local residents committee, that 33 houses out of a total of 103 in the estate required smoke detectors.  Eight teams of Rotarians arrived at the estate on the evening of Thursday 8th March armed with a screwdriver and a step-ladder and wearing high-visibility vests.  The response from the residents was very positive and the alarms were very much welcomed by the householders.  The Smoke alarms were supplied by the Mayo Fire Service and contained a 10-year lithium battery; two alarms were installed in each house. Rotary Castlebar would like to acknowledge the support of Mr Seamus Murphy, Chief Fire Officer and Mayo County Council.

This is Rotary’s first Fire Safety & Awareness project in the locality and judging by the success of the evening this will become an on-going project.

Rotary is a worldwide voluntary organisation that provides service to the local community as well as internationally. Castlebar Rotary is in existence since 1978 and has supported numerous local community projects over the years.
