Firsts

There is no game for the firsts this weekend but there is still one game left to play which could have a bearing on the league as we face Sligo at home in our final game of the season. Players will be notified about a possible friendly next weekend at training.

Under 16

Castlebar 8 Tuam 3 The long awaited Under 16 League final went ahead on Sunday last in the hallowed grounds of the Sportsground in which Castlebar faced Tuam in a cracking game that was worthy of any occasion. From the word go Tuam hit them with everything but found the lads defending like men possessed and it was Castlebar who took the upper hand when Emmet Gill crashed over for the first try after twenty minutes. Neil Douglas added a penalty to make it 8-0 at the break. Tuam to their credit never gave up and attacked the Castlebar line from the off but faced a resolute defence and their only reward was a penalty mid way through the half which was kicked by Derek Ryder. Castlebar again lifted their game and finished the game on the front foot. A brilliant performance from the team and all credit must go to their coaching staff of Rory Casey, Greg Barry, Simon Shevlin and Mick Brady for a job well done.

Mini Rugby

The Mini rugby blitz planned for last Saturday had to be called off and will be rescheduled for a later date. Training continues as usual on Saturday.

Dress Dance

Due to a clash of dates, the Dress Dance has now been moved back a week to Friday 28th April, in the clubhouse.

Good luck

Best of Luck to first team captain Mike Campbell who is leaving for a life of luxury and excitement in Spain. On a more serious note, Mike has been a great servant to the club since joining as a player, youth development officer and Club captain and everyone in the club will be sorry to see him go. Castlebar RFC wish Mike the very best in his endeavours and all the best for the future.

Lotto:

There was no winner of the jackpot so it will now be 7,100 euro. The numbers drawn were 1, 3, 7 and 8. Six people matched three. They were K Armstrong, N Rock, A Gilchrist, M Kilbane, J Burke and P Bourke. Congratulations to all of them. They will receive 17 euro each.

Greg Barry’s team are on duty next month at a venue to be confirmed. Players are asked to return their tickets as soon as possible.
