Firsts

We travelled with high hopes but left despondent as Castlebar’s cup dreams lay in tatters. The Firsts went to OLBC for both the league and cup tie and left empty handed as OLBC proved just too strong on the day. There are still several big games to come in the league and Castlebar could in fact hold the balance between the league been won by a Mayo club or not so there are still several games of pride to play.

Seconds

The Ard Na Cregg dream of Castlebar RFC ended on Sunday when they had to give second best to a strong Corinthians side. But the season is not over just yet as the Mayo League is there to be won. We will have news on this next week.

Under 16

U-16 Plate Semi-Final
Ballina 14                      Castlebar 3
It wasn’t to be but this performance has set up Castlebar well for their forthcoming league final against Tuam very nicely. Ballina took advantage of two errors to get in for tries that were converted. But Castlebar fought on and worked hard with the pack including Conor Walsh, Colm Corbett and John McGuinness outstanding. A Neil Douglas penalty gave some hope but Ballina held on to qualify for the Plate final. Conditions did not help either side but the Bottom line is that this defeat stands well to Castlebar and the team are optimistic of a league winning showing next Sunday.

Under 16 League Final

The long awaited Under 16 League final will go ahead on Sunday next in the hallowed grounds of the Sportsground in Galway when we face Tuam with a 1pm Kick off. This is a very important game, in fact one of the most important of the season and Castlebar RFC would like everyone involved with the club in anyway to come out and support the lads on what is one of the highlights of the season. Anyone interested in going to the final are asked to contact Rory Casey immediately as we are trying to get as many people as possible to come out and support the lads.

Mini Rugby

The Castlebar under 8 and under 12 teams were in action over the weekend in Ballinrobe where we face the home side. A great day was had by all with Castlebar winning games at both age groups. Next up for all teams is a trip to Ballina next Saturday. The bus will leave the courthouse at 9.30 returning to the Courthouse at 2pm approx.

Dress Dance

Due to a clash of dates, the Dress Dance has now been moved back a week to Friday 28th April, in the clubhouse.

Lotto:

There was no winner of the jackpot so it will now be 7,100 euro. The numbers drawn were 1, 3, 7 and 8. Six people matched three. They were K Armstrong, N Rock, A Gilchrist, M Kilbane, J Burke and P Bourke. Congratulations to all of them. They will receive 17 euro each.

Greg Barry’s team are on duty next month at a venue to be confirmed. Players are asked to return their tickets as soon as possible.
