Mini Rugby News

Last weekend the minis had an excellent weekend against Westport and Ballina in a mini blitz where everyone enjoyed themselves and played so great rugby. Special thanks must also go to those parents who came out also to support the teams. That is really appreciated by the players. Also special thanks to Davitt College for the use of their pitches on Saturday. Training continues on Saturday morning next at 10.30am.

Under 13

Castlebar U13s play Ballina in their third game in the league on Saturday November 17th away in Ballina.  Meet at the library at 10:00.  Bus will be back at the library at 1:45 sharp.  Bring 5 Euro for the bus.

Under 14

The under 14 side played Westport on Saturday and despite putting up a good show with the forwards coming in for special mention they had to given second best on the day. Castlebar’s try coming from Peter Gordon. Training continues on Wednesday at 7pm and next up the team travel to Tuam on Saturday with a 12 noon kick off.

Under 16

The under 16 team once again showed their class in defeating Gort 29-7 in Gort. Tries coming from Emmet Gill, William Kearney, Alex Masuku and two from Sean Wooton. Emmet Gill kicked the rest of the points. This win puts Castlebar in a strong position behind Ballina with three matches to play. Training continues on Wednesday night at 7pm with a league game next Saturday to be confirmed.

Under 18

Castlebar’s next outing is a home fixture against Dunmore on the 18th November. Kick off 12 noon. Training continues on Wednesday’s at 7pm.

Under 20’s

The under 20 side faced Sligo last Saturday and produced some great rugby in winning 20-15. Castlebar’s tries coming from Padraic Healy who scored two tries and Ronan Moran who added a third. Ronan Conway kicked a penalty and conversion against a Sligo team who have been fancied this season.

Next weekend is scheduled as a free weekend with the next game against Tuam at home on November 24th. More details next week.

Firsts

The Firsts were in action against OLBC at home on Sunday and with some outstanding rugby defeated the visitors by 30-3. Castlebar’s scores coming from Tadgh Kirby with two, Ger Prendegast and Enda Murphy. Paul Coady kicked the rest. This win is vital as it closes the gap on the top of the table as we enter a vital part of the season. Next up is the all important game against Monivea at the castle grounds Monivea kicking off at 2.30. A special plea goes out to all castlebar supporters to show their colours on Sunday.

Once again Castlebar seconds produced the goods away from home in beating Ballina seconds by twenty points on Sunday last. Despite sustaining some pressure in the first half, Castlebar’s Class showed in the second half with tries coming from Niall Coyle, Tom Murphy and Chris Rogan. Ronan Conway kicked a conversion and a penalty. Next Sunday Buccaneers come to Castlebar with a kick off time of 2.30. Training continues as usual.
