Firsts

The firsts game against was Gort was called off again and it is now becoming very likely that this game will not be played at all. At the time of writing, there is no date as to when this game will be played. However on the playing front there is good news in that the first weekend in may will see a touring side visit Castlebar. This will be a great chance for a final run out before the end of the season and maybe whet the appetite for the new one. More details next week.

Mini Rugby

Castlebar travelled to the Under 10 Connacht blitz that was held over the weekend. The team travelled on a wet and windy morning ready and prepared for a busy afternoon’s rugby and did not disappoint with three excellent displays in three exciting and close games. Unfortunately we didn’t win the group but took an important win against Tuam in our first game. After that was the clash with Westport which we lost narrowly. Finally came the game with Connemara. This was tight and exciting and unfortunately after giving a wonderful display, had to give second best. The team played really well all day and deserve all the credit that they get.

There was slight confusion on Saturday morning as many players thought they had training after their blitz on Thursday evening. This was not the case and the club apologises for any misunderstanding.

Under 11

The Under 11 Connacht blitz gets underway next Saturday at 10am in Monivea. Due to the early start the team bus will be leaving the courthouse at 8.30am.

Mini presentations on the 6th of May in the clubhouse.

Under 16

The under 16 team did us all proud on Friday evening last when they took on Westport in the final of the plate. It did not work to plan as Westport defeated us after a cracking game that was enjoyed by everyone who was there. Special tribute must go to Kiwi Horkan and Rory Casey who worked wonders with this team and it was special to see a fine team that will go far in the future.

Club Dinner

Castlebar RFC will be holding its annual club dinner on Friday the 14th of May. The venue will be the Welcome Inn Castlebar. Anyone who requires further information can receive it from committee members.

Lotto

The Monthly Club Lotto will be held on the final Friday of the month. More details next week
