Firsts

The firsts were in action on Sunday when they faced Sligo, a team who have been a bogey team in the past. Once again the Hamilton Park Curse struck again and Castlebar lost 16-12 after leading 12-5 at half time. Castlebar’s tries came from Paul Coady after a good lineout move and an excellent try from Darren Claussan after Tadgh Kirby intercepted a short kick off. There are some serious positives to be taken from this and all the coaching staff are hoping that this is a temporary blip. Next weekend is a busy weekend with the visit of Loughrea to Cloonndeash. A large home support is half the battle and we will need a big one on Sunday. Kick off is at 3pm

Seconds

For those who are not involved with the firsts on Sunday, a very special event takes place on Friday evening with the visit of Athens Spartans to Castlebar. The Spartans are one of only four touring sides in Greece and we welcome them to the west of Ireland and hope that they enjoy their stay. They play Castlebar on Friday before heading to Ballinrobe to play them on Saturday. All senior players must be at the ground for 7pm. The game kicks off at half seven.

Ladies

Training continues for the ladies teams at 6.30 every Saturday evening. Anyone interesting to taking up the world’s fastest growing element of the oval ball and using it as a great way to get in shape ahead of the Christmas are more than welcome to attend. Just show up with your boots and enjoy it. There are games planned for the next couple of weeks. So players are asked to keep a close eye and ear on local media for further details.

Underage

Castlebar’s under 16 team were due to play Creggs at the weekend but unfortunately Creggs were unable to field. Training continues on Wednesday evenings for all under 14, 16 and 18 teams and players will be notified on future fixtures over the next couple of weeks.

Mini Rugby

Last Saturday, Castlebar held its registration day for all mini rugby players from under 8’s up to under 12 and once again it turned out to be an incredible success with large numbers attending. All players registered received a sponsored training top and there was fun for all with bouncy castles and refreshments for all. The Club would like to thank Casey Ford Castlebar for their sponsorship of a great day.

CLUB LOTTO

Castlebar RFC’s monthly lotto is starting to get nice and interesting at 5,200 euro. The next draw is on Friday night at the clubhouse after the friendly with Athens Spartans. All are welcome.
