Firsts

The season is now over for the firsts with just a couple of friendlies to come and preparations for the All Ireland junior cup. The coach, manager and backroom staff would like to thank the players and support for all their commitment this season and hope that next season will be even better.

We would also like to send our good wishes to Westport player Michael O’Brien and wish him a speedy recovery from the injury he picked up last Sunday against Sligo.

Underage

The under 18 team were supposed to be in action over the weekend in the semi final of the Plate where they were due to face Monivea. However Monivea had to withdraw from the competition meaning that we are now through to the final on Friday evening when we will face Creggs. The venue is Tuam with the game kicking off at 7pm. All support welcome. The team had a good session on Bertra over the weekend and the players will have a run out on Thursday evening.

Mini Rugby news

Castlebar and Westport hosted the Connacht under 8 and under 9 blitz over the weekend. It was an excellent day of good rugby and a large crowd came out to show their support for the teams. These days are all about fun and enjoying their rugby and Castlebar’s young guns certainly did that as they played some top class games against good opposition in Tuam, Athlone and Corinthians. Unfortunately Sligo had to withdraw due to a death in the club. In the end we won and lost games but the important thing is that they enjoyed their rugby and are a good prospect for the future.

The season is now over and the club would like to thank all the players and parents for their support and hope to see them all again next season.

Awards and party night

The mini rugby awards and party night will be announced soon. Presentations of the mini rugby awards will be made for player of the year, most improved player etc with a very well known rugby celebrity making the presentations to the players. More news on this very shortly.

Tickets are selling fast for the Castlebar RFC Dress dance, which will take place in the clubhouse on Friday next getting underway at 8pm. Tickets cost 40 euro and are available from committee members.
