Firsts

It was not to be for the firsts at the weekend when we were defeated by a strong Westport side in the Connacht Junior league. It would be also unfair to say that the league is over as it is anything but. Next Sunday is a vital game as we host Corinthians in Cloondeash with a 2.30 kick off. If there was ever a time to come out and support local rugby then the time is now as a win would put us back in the reckoning.

Castlebar: Paul Coady, Simon O’Malley, Paddy Flannelly, Tadgh Kirby, Darren Claasen, Robbie Cusack, Christy Cusack. Rayno DeKock, Paddy Durcan, Ruairi Hughes, Alex Goor, Mike Marsh, Mike Campbell, Ger Prendergast, Enda Murphy.

Replacements: Mike Power for Flannelly, Alan Gavin for DeKock.

Seconds

Currently flying high the seconds return from the week long break to face Creggs in Cloondeash at 2.30. Just a couple of points behind league leaders Ballyhaunis, a win would put us top of the table. All support would be gratefully appreciated. All players are reminded to be at the clubhouse at 1.30.

Training continues on Tuesday and Friday nights

Underage

U-16 Connacht League

Castlebar 8 Tuam 5

The under 16 team did themselves proud once again on Sunday when they defeated Tuam to go top of the Connacht under 16 league with a brilliant display in front of a good crowd. The fact that the game was a curtain raiser to the firsts game against Westport meant a few who wouldn’t be out for an underage game appeared and were very impressed by a great team performance.

It was excitement from the kick off with Castlebar taking the game to Tuam and this was rewarded with a fine Ray O’Malley try. Tuam came back into the game with a try but O’Malley again kicked a penalty to leave the scores 8-5 at the break. Amazingly there was to be no other scores as Castlebar played some outstanding rugby and held on for a famous victory. Well done to the team and its coaching staff and things are looking good for the season.
