Firsts

Once again luck deserted us when we needed it and the firsts had to give second best to Corinthians in Cloondeash on Sunday. The final score of 29-20 does not tell the full story and it shows that this team are full of heart but unfortunately, just lack the luck necessary at times. The league is not over and a week’s break will give us a chance to regroup ahead of our next league game against Corrib on the 27th of November. By then the league will look a lot clearer as there are several games still to be played in the backlog up to then. Training continues as normal on Tuesday and Friday nights.

The next game for the firsts happens on the 20th of November when we face Loughrea in the Cawley cup. More on this next week.

Under 14 League

Tuam 10 Castlebar 24

A man of the match display from captain and No. 8, Sean Woottan, coupled with outstanding defence prior to half time when facing the elements was the springboard for a fine victory in Tuam on Saturday last.

Facing a strong wind, Castlebar scored first with a break from Sean Wootton, finished off by out half Mark Durcan. Castlebar spent the rest of the first half under pressure and trailed 10-5 at the break.

Mark Durcan and Paul Sweeney went off injured to be replaced by Matthew Staunton and Aidan Gleeson.

Emmett Gill scored a fine individual try in the left corner 10 minutes into the second half, which was superbly converted from the touchline by Francis Walsh.

The score of the match came 8 minutes later when the Castlebar backs moved the ball from their own 22 and Peter Lyons went the length of the pitch to score under the posts.

With 5 minutes to go a fine backline move was finished off by Oisín O’Malley to conclude the scoring.

Castlebar face Westport in Cloondeash on Saturday 12th of November in their next league game.

Castlebar: S. Breen, W. Keaney, E. Gill, P. Lyons, O. O’Malley, M. Durcan, R. Tuohy, P. Sweeney, M. Walsh, P. Rowland, K. Guthrie, F. Walsh, S. Conroy, N. Tuffy, S. Wootton.

Subs: A. Gleeson, M. Staunton, D. Togher, and J. Gleeson.

Under 18

Castlebar’s under 18 team faced Westport in a friendly over the weekend and produced some quality rugby to draw 17-17. Man of the match Ronan Conway scored two tries before Fintan Casey scored an outstanding try that was set up by the pack. This was a vital result after previous weeks and gets us back on track with some important league games to come. Players are asked to note that training continues every Tuesday and Friday.

Mini Rugby

Training continues every Saturday at 11am at the clubhouse. Parents are always welcome to come along and watch the training and our team of highly trained and skilled coaches will answer any questions that you may have.
