Firsts

The firsts good form in the Cawley cup continued on Sunday last when they defeated Tuam with an outstanding display of rugby to win 22-7. This win now puts them into the quarter finals against Dunmore or Creggs. Should they win that then it is a home draw against possibly Ballina in February. Castlebar’s tries came from Robbie Cusack, Nigel Byrne and Darin Claasen with Darin kicking the rest. Next weekend Castlebar host Creggs at Cloondeash with the game kicking off at 2.30.

Castlebar: Paul Coady, Mike Power, Darin Claasen, Jason Keane, Nigel Byrne, Robert Cusack, Christy Cusack. Rayno DeKock, Paddy Durcan, Alex Goor, Damian Glackin, Paul Heverin, Enda Murphy, Mike Campbell, Mike March.

Subs: Neil Coyle, Ciaran Flynn, Ger Prendergast, Ruairi Hughes, and Alan Gavin.

Underage

Under 18

Its back to action on Friday night as Castlebar face Creggs under lights in Cloondeash. Players will be notified at training. Training continues as usual.

Mini Rugby

Castlebar rang to the sound of mini rugby on Saturday last when the club hosted a blitz for all teams from under 7 to under 12. Ballina and Sligo also took part on a great day with over 300 players taking part. Again Castlebar did excellently with brilliant performances from all concerned and everyone enjoyed themselves. There is no time to rest though as next weekend they travel to Westport to take part in another blitz. All players are asked to be at the Courthouse at 10am and parents are reminded that all teams will be back in Castlebar at 2pm. Players are also reminded to bring their mouth guards.

Race Night

Last Friday the great and the good were at the clubhouse for a great night’s racing. In all nine races went to post including an auction race, which will be remembered by all who were present. A special word of thanks must go to all who sponsored a race or bought a horse. Well done also to Paddy Durcan for an excellent job as auctioneer and to the Mike Campbell Syndicate who despite getting one of the cheapest horses of the night, stole through on the outside for a famous victory. Overall it was a fantastic night and thanks to Martin O’Malley for providing the entertainment on a great night for the club. Lotto.

The lotto draw was held on Friday night as part of the race night and the numbers were 9, 11, 19 and 23. No winner and three matched three numbers. They were D Cashin, J Campbell and P Regan. They all receive 33 euro each.

The next draw is on Friday the 30th of December in Rays with a jackpot of 6,800 euro. This month is Dave O’Malley’s team.
