Firsts

The firsts were in action on Sunday against Creggs in the quarter final of the Cawley cup. This was a win we needed and got with a brilliantly worked try by Mike March combined with the kicking of Darin Claasen who kicked three penalties in an important 14-7 win.

The game started brightly for Castlebar with the forwards handling well and this was rewarded with a Claassen Penalty after five minutes. However Creggs returned and scored a try through Daniel Keane which was converted by Tom Flynn. Castlebar had to respond quickley and did with a try of pure quality from Mike March in a move that saw the ball handled by almost all the Castlebar team. Creggs could not respond and two more Claasen Penalties told the story for Castlebar.

Seconds

The seconds game against Ballyhaunis was called off due to them having a Cawley cup game on Sunday.

Under 18

The Under 18 team had a big win over Westport at the weekend in a friendly winning by 35-10. Chris Rogan put in a storming man of the match display with two tries, Padraig Healy, Ronan Conway and Padraig Healy five conversions in a well contested challenge that both teams will have found very useful. Westport put up great pressure which was well handled but it was Castlebar who took advantage to score in what is a great warm up for our trip to Scotland in February.
