Mini Rugby News

The mini’s travelled to Ballina at the weekend and had a great time. Games were played at all age groups and all teams played some excellent rugby. One hundred and twenty five players travelled making it our biggest ever group to travel to a mini blitz. Well done to all coaches and helpers for making it a great success.

Training as usual on Saturday morning at 10.30am.

Under 13

Castlebar U13 played their first match in the development league against Creggs on Saturday.  It was a great opportunity to try players in different positions in the first 15 man aside game on a full sized pitch.  There was plenty of running and good forward work with four tries coming from the back row, two tries by Diarmuid Finnan and the other two were scored by Bryan O'Malley.  The final result was 31 - 20 to Creggs.  All upcoming fixtures in the league are posted on the Castlebarrfc.com.
Training is at 10:30 on Saturday and those of you who have not registered please do so on Saturday,

The Team put up great performances both times beating Tuam 27-7 but going down to a stronger Ballina Team on Saturday 15-7. The team could be in action this week against either Loughrea or Ballinrobe. Players will be notified at training on Wednesday at 7pm.

Under 18

The under 18 team are in action in the league on Wednesday night against Ballyhaunis kicking off at 7.30 in Ballyhaunis. The bus will be leaving the courthouse at 5.30.

Congratulations to Shane Casey who has done the club proud with his performances in the Green of Connaught at Under 18 and Schools level. His performance against Leinster played recently in Athlone comes in for special mention, as he was one of the bright lights in what was a disappointing result. Well done Shane!

Under 20s

The under 20 side play Connemara at the monastery field on Saturday kicking off at 2.30. Players are asked to be at the Library at 10.30am. Could all players contact Stuart Brennan on 086 – 8256753 as soon as possible.

Firsts

The firsts were in action on Sunday against Buccaneers in their opening game in Division one A of the Connacht Junior League. In a game that will probably be remembered for some questionable refereeing, they fell behind and trailed 14-0 at half time. Buccaneers scores coming when Ruairi Hughes was sin binned for infringing, a decision that still raises questions. Alex Goor scored the Castlebar try that was converted by Robbie Cusack. Despite this the team played some great rugby with the pack coming for special mention and deserve great credit.

Next up is the local derby clash with Ballina fixed for next Sunday kicking off at 3pm .
