Firsts

There was no action for the Firsts over the weekend as Monivea were involved in All Ireland Junior cup action. However the fun begins again on Sunday next in what is one of the most important games they will play all season when we face OLBC in the first round proper of the Connacht Junior cup. The Plan all season has always been to have a good run in this competition and defeat will spell the end of the competitive season with just a few games left in the League. The Sportsground has always been a good ground for us and a large support is expected on Sunday. This vital game kicks off at 3pm.

Seconds

Castlebar 28 Ballinrobe 10

Castlebar’s seconds produced some of the best rugby seen all season when they defeated a tough and determined Ballinrobe on Sunday last in Cloondeash. This performance will be remembered for four outstanding tries but overall it was the display of the team who were simply brilliant in overcoming their opponents and now look very strong with one game remaining in this competition and with the Ard Na Cregg starting in a couple of weeks time. Castlebar’s scores came from Paddy Flannelly, Nigel Byrne with two and Padraig Healy who put in a man of the match display with an outstanding try and four conversions. Ballinrobe responded with a try from Doran McHugh and a penalty and conversion from Chris McHugh. This leaves Castlebar in a very strong position in the league and well done to the team.

Castlebar: Brendan Kelly, Barry Barnacle, Brian Flannery, Chris Rogan, Sean Hynes, Paddy Flannelly, Eanna Kilbane, Eamon Cafferkey, Jonathon Moran, Padraig Healy, Nigel Byrne, Ivor Gilmartin, Liam Fahy, Tommy Nolan, David O’Malley, Seamus Devaney, Mike Moran, Neil Coyle, John Joe Ormsby, Damien Glackin, James Armstrong, Paudi O’Malley, John Derrig

Under 16

The Under 16 team are in action on Sunday next in one of the big games of the year when they face Sligo in Cloondeash kicking off at 11am. This is an important game as Sligo is a division one side. But we are ready for action and are looking forward to a cracker. It is also a great chance to see the emerging talent before heading up to Galway for the junior cup game against OLBC. If you can get to Cloondeash at all then come out and roar on the lads. The hard working bunch is already just one step away from the league so who is to say a double cannot happen? The Club wishes them the very best on Sunday.

Under 18

The under 18 team’s final preparations for their tour to Scotland are now finally at an end and it is all down to the trip itself which begins on Friday. We will have a full run down on the tour next week.

Mini Rugby

It is back to action for the mini rugby teams on Saturday next as Castlebar travel to Galway for a mini blitz with Galwegians. The Bus will leave the Courthouse at 9am so all players are asked to be on time and not to forget their mouth guards and head gear. The Bus will return between 3pm and 3.30.

Dress Dance

Due to a clash of dates, the Dress Dance has now been moved back a week to Friday 28th April, in the clubhouse.

Lotto:

There was no winner of the jackpot so it will now be 7,000 euro. There were eight match three winners and congratulations to them. The next draw will take place on Friday week in a venue to be announced. Jimmy Staunton’s team are on duty. Players are asked to return their tickets as soon as possible.
