First Team News

Castlebar RFC Firsts had a good run out at the weekend against a vastly improving Dunmore at Cloondeash on Saturday evening last. In a game that failed to take off until late in the first half, tries from Andy Olsen, Alex Goor and Killian Molloy with two conversions from Robbie Cusack meant a comfortable win for the home side. Cloondeash looked in perfect condition for this game and credit has to go to the ground staff for a job well done. Next up is a cracking encounter against Garryowen that is provisionally fixed for Saturday evening at Cloondeash. Garryowen need no introduction as one of Ireland’s strongest sides and never send a weakened team. So this will be a true test for the firsts. At the time of writing the time is still not clear, but players will be notified at training and local radio will have the kick off time later in the week.

Seconds news

The seconds are training hard ahead of the new season under coach Michael Cunningham. As always a call has gone out to anyone who would be interested to join the seconds and take part as a great way of keeping fit and enjoying their rugby. Training is on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm at Cloondeash.

Underage news

Training will be soon underway for the new season at underage and the club is looking forward to a good season. There will be more information on times and venues next week.

Alone it stands

Last Friday night, the club held a very successful night in conjunction with the play Alone it stands which was running in the TF Royal Hotel in Castlebar. It was great to see so many people out and by all accounts everyone enjoyed themselves. There are other nights that will take place throughout the year so stayed tuned to local press for details on these, also a reminder that lotto tickets remain on sale from any member of the committee.
