Swimming Gold for Castlebar at Aer Lingus Open.

Three swimmers from Castlebar Swimming Club, Sara English, Sarah Caulfield and James Caulfield, travelled to the Aer Lingus Gala in mid-November, 2006 to compete in a national competition which was held over three days.

Sara English had good swims overall, swimming close to her personal best times and making reserve finalist in the 100m Backstroke and the 100m Breaststroke.

Sarah Caulfield also had good swims and made 2nd reserve finalist in the 50m Breaststroke and the 100m Individual Medley.

James Caulfield had a fantastic performance at the competition. Throughout the weekend he got personal best times in his swims and got into many finals. He won bronze medals in the 200m Individual Medley and in the 100m Individual Medley. However the high-light of the weekend for James was getting into the Breaststroke final. It was a close race for the first 50m but on the second 50m, James tore away from the other competitors touching the wall in first place at least 2 seconds ahead of the other competitors in the race. He won the gold medal and made a personal best time of 1.13.55.

Overall the three swimmers represented the club with distinction at national level and we wish them success in their future competitions.
