The Aer Lingus Swim Club hosted their 25th Anniversary Open Gala (Short Course) in the ALSAA Pool on Nov 21-23, 2003.

Seven swimmers from the Castlebar club travelled to Dublin to compete and some good performances were given against swimmers from 32 different clubs from around the country.

The pick of the weekend’s performances came from Colm Garrick with two really strong swims in the 50m Breaststroke with a time of 33.05 in the heat to take a place in the finals. Against strong opposition Colm went on to swim a creditable 32.48 in the final to take fourth place. Colm also competed in 50m Backstroke where he made 2nd reserve finalist and in the 100M Backstroke (1.04.58), 50m Freestyle (26.25), and also 100m IM.

Twins Natalie and Aisling Bourke can be very satisfied with two personal best swims in the Girls 12-13 200m Freestyle, Natalie posted 2.31.21 and Aisling did 2.30.20.
Both girls competed in the 100m Freestyle and the 100m Butterfly
Aisling also swam the 200m IM in a time of 2.47.95, the 200m Breaststroke in a time of 1.25.08 and 100m IM in a time of 1.18.25
Natalie produced a good time of 1.19.00 in the 100m Backstroke.

Darragh Quinn competed in a number of events in the open category with his best swim probably being the 200m Breaststroke in a time of 2.10.56. Darragh also swam 100m Freestyle (58.34) 100m Backstroke (1.12.05), 100m Breaststroke (1.14.44) and 200m IM (2.24.26).

Dara Dever was pleased with a personal best time in the 100m Breaststroke of 1.14.78, which is a National qualifying time. Dara who has commenced studying in Dublin and whose training has been restricted also competed in the 50m Breaststroke (34.79), 200m Breaststroke (2.51.00) and 200m IM (2.33.28)

Sara Wiseman swam in the 100m Freestyle with time of 1.09.34.

Jimmy Wiseman swam in 50M Butterfly (30.12), 100m Breaststroke (1.20.24), and 50m Breaststroke (35.41)

The men’s relay team of Dara Dever, Jimmy Wiseman, Darragh Quinn and Colm Garrick swam a time of 1.49.50 in the Open 200m Freestyle Relay.

The Boys U11 relay team of Tony Sweeney, Killian Dervan, Patrick Sweeney and Rory Tuohy took a well earned bronze as did the Girls U13 team of Ita Heneghan, Deirdre Walsh, Juliet Connaughton and Deirdre Ni Domhnaill.
Other swimmers to compete included Diarmaid Joyce, Liam Martin, Aoife Gavin, Triona Ni Domhnaill and Laura Breslin

For many of these swimmers this was their first ‘away’ gala and they did the club and Jacky proud by taking home so many medals together with personal best times.

A very big WELL DONE to the young swimmers who achieved B & C category times.
