Castlebar Host Season's First Gala

There was a huge turnout for the Annual Castlebar A gala held on Sunday the 9th of October.

The event sponsored by the Permanent TSB attracted swimmers from all the major clubs in the Connacht region and proved to be a very successful day.

The opening event was the boys 400 meter freestyle and Eoghan Grady secured Castlebar's first gold of the day winning the 14-15 years age group in a time of 4.21.55. Cillian Melly produced an excellent swim to take the bronze medal and Patrick Livingstone with a personal best time came 6th overall.

In the 16 and over section Killian Dervan and Con Doherty finished in second and third place overall and can be very pleased with their performance so early in the season.

Also competing for Castlebar were Conor Melly Jamie Murphy and Mark Dervan.

The next event was the girls 100 meter backstroke and Sara English competing in the 16 and over section took the gold medal in a time of 1.09.81 with an excellent swim.

In the 12 - 13 age group Sinead Mylett took the silver medal in a superb time of 1.10.99.

Also competing for Castlebar with some great performances and personal best times were Aisling Grady Ambre Fadden Laura Fahy Niamh Henneghan Aoibheann Hennigan Caoimhe Hennigan Paula McDonagh And Una Togher.

In the 14-15 age group Chloe Sheridan made the final but narrowly missed a podium finish. Also swimming in this section were Ellen Murphy and Louise Dervan.

In the 11 and under age group there were some fine swims from Edel Egan Nicola Connelly Siofra McHale Hannah Grady and Niamh Breslin.

The boys 100 meter backstroke event provided silver medals for both Killian Dervan and Eoghan Grady .

Next came the girls 400 meter freestyle and Sinead Mylett claimed the gold with an excellent swim in the 12 -13 age group. Edel Egan took the silver in the 11 and under section.

The next event was the boys 100 meter breaststroke and Killian Dervan continued his excellent form to take gold in the 16 and over age group with Con Doherty taking the silver.

In the girls 100 meter breaststroke Louise Dervan claimed the gold with a superb swim in the 14-15 age group .

Sara English again produced the goods to take gold in the 16 and over section and there was bronze for Sinead Mylett.

Also competing in the breaststroke was Siofra Horan.

Edel Egan took the bronze in the 11 and under section with Heather Fadden producing an excellent personal best time in her first A gala. Well done to all our swimmers .
