There were some fine swims and a host of personal bests and A times for Castlebar swimmers at a recent B&C gala in Ballina. Ronan Dervan took a gold medal in the 100m backcrawl, just narrowly missing out on an A time, while Ciaran Mylett took bronze in his class in the same event. For the girls, Aoife Donohue took silver and Heather Fadden took bronze, with Megan Deely taking bronze in her class. For the under-13 boys, Nathan Rennick had a fine swim and gained an A time of 1:27.50, while James English also swam well to take gold in his class. Also swimming in the u-13 age group were Kianna Higgins, who took gold in her class, also narrowly missing out on an A time, and Louise Mongan who swam the 100m backcrawl in 1:33.75. Matthew Moran represented the u-15 boys, taking silver in his class with a B time of 1:27.47. For the u-15 girls, Caoimhe Bourke-Tuffy took gold in her class with a time of 1:40.10, while Megan Coen swam an impressive 1:22.22 to achieve an A time.

A change of event to breaststroke saw Ronan Dervan and Sean O'Connor achieving A times. Michael Fahy took gold in the u-11 category, just narrowly missing out on a B time, while Cian Donohue took a silver in his class with a time of 2:02.19. For the girls Hannah Grady and Hazel Coen made their A times, while Johanna McDonagh took bronze in the B category, and Megan Deely took silver in her class. For the u-13 boys, Nathan Rennick achieved another A time, and Alan Bourke-Tuffy took bronze in the B category. Kianna Higgins took silver in the B category with a time of 1:47.26. For the u-15 boys, Matthew Moran took bronze in his class, while Megan Coen took another bronze for the u-15 girls.

There were also some strong performances in the 100m individual medley (IM) - with A times for Hazel Coen and Aoife Donohue, and the Castlebar relay team took gold medals in the under-11 boys, the u-11 girls and the u-13 boys and bronze in the u-13 girls. Also swimming well for Castlebar on the day were Fiona Conway, Hazel Coen, Saoirse Hoban, Alan Bourke-Tuffy, William Staunton, Clodagh Healy and Sarah Bourke.
