The senior swimmers from Castlebar Swimming Club had a fine day of competition at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin last weekend, where they managed a respectable tally of Division 1 times and personal bests, and a total of 10 medals between them. The long-course gala also gave the swimmers a chance to compete in a 50 metre pool in advance of next month's Division 1 gala.

First gold of the day went to Louise Dervan who swam the 200m breast stroke in 3:05.41. She narrowly missed out on a podium finish in the 200m individual medley, coming fourth with a time of 2:48.58, but gained silver in the 100m breast stroke with a time of 1:24.51. Caoimhe Hennigan solidified her Division 1 time in the 400m freestyle with a five-second PB, giving her a time of 5:13.35. Another PB of 2:48.61 in the 200m IM got her a second Division 1 time, with her 100m freestyle time of 1:08.74 giving her the trifecta, and plenty of swims to look forward to at July's Division 1 championships.

It was a great day of competition also for Sinead Mylett, who took three golds, and served up two amazing personal bests - taking almost six seconds off her 200m back stroke time to achieve 2:29.50, and over seven seconds off her 50m backstroke to finish on 33.14. Her third gold was for the 200m fly, which she swam in 2:38.97.

Paula McDonagh also continues to improve her times, taking almost ten seconds off her 400m freestyle time to achieve 5:16.55 and a Division 1 time, and almost six seconds off her 200m IM to finish on 2:59.81. Laura Fahy just narrowly missed out on a Division 1 time in the 400m freestyle, but swam an excellent 2:51.20 in the 200IM to secure her place in this event at Division 1. Her second Divison 1 time of the day came in the 200m backstroke, which she swam in 2:49.47.

Edel Egan, the youngest of the girls swimming at this level, got her Division 1 time and a bronze medal in the 200 IM with a time of 2:54.42. A silver medal followed for her time of 1:08.25 in the 100m freestyle, and she rounded off the day with a stunning 20-second PB in the 800m freestyle - earning a bronze medal with her time of 10:38.76.

For the boys, Conor Melly had a fine swim in the 200m IM, narrowly missing out on a podium finish, but scooping a Division 1 time and an 11-second PB with a time of 2:51.01. A silver medal and his second Division 1 time of the day came in the 100m freestyle, which he swam in 1:09.37. Mark Dervan secured his Division 1 time - and a silver medal - in the 100m breast stroke with a time of 1:24.52.
