CASTLEBAR SWIMMERS TAKE THIRD PLACE IN LEISURELAND CUP

A strong team from Castlebar Swimming Club travelled to Galway on Monday March 18th to take part in the Annual Leisureland Cup. They finished a very creditable third as they competed against the top clubs in Connaught. There were many fine individual performances and good displays in relay events also.

U. 10 Boys (25m Individual)
Nicholas Quinn - Backstroke 4th and Butterfly 4th

Edward O'Byrne - Freestyle 3rd.

Castlebar Swimmers continue their winning ways at Cranny Gala.

Sixteen of the top swimmers from Castlebar Swimming Club were in action at the Cranny Memorial Gala which was held at Leisureland, Galway on Saturday April 6th.
This event, as always, attracted a huge entry from the Connaught Clubs including Athlone Aces, Ballina Dolphins, Castlebar, Claremorris, Falcon (Galway), Laser, Galway, Longford, RAGS (Athlone), Sligo and Tuam.

Cian Holland was in superb form, he took gold in the Senior 50m Butterfly event and followed this with a fine swim in the 50m Freestyle to take a second gold medal. Cian showed his proficiency at all four strokes by taking silver in the 100m Individual Medley. He also reached the finals of the 50m Breaststroke and 50m Backstroke events where he came 4th and 5th respectively.

Darragh Quinn also had a most successful day, taking gold in the U. 15 50m Breaststroke, silver in the 100m Individual Medley and bronze in the 50m Butterfly. Darragh also reached the final of the 50m Freestyle where he came 5th and was reserve finalist in the 50m Backstroke event..
Colm Garrick had fine swims in the finals of the Senior 50m Freestyle and Breaststroke events, taking bronze in both. Colm also came 4th in the final of the 50m Backstroke.
Laura Keaveney had a wonderful swim in the final of the U. 15 50m Butterfly and produced a “Nationals” qualifying time as she took the silver medal. Laura also reached the final of the 50m Breaststroke where she came 5th and was reserve finalist in the 50m Freestyle.

Shenagh O’Byrne produced a very good swim in the final of the U. 13 50m Butterfly where she took bronze, Shenagh also reached the final of the 50m Freestyle where she came 4th.
Jill Magee reached the finals of the Senior 50m Backstroke, Freestyle and Breaststroke events.

Anthony English reached the final of the U. 15 Breaststroke and was reserve finalist for the 50m Backstroke.
Brian Moran qualified for the final of the U. 15 50m Backstroke where he came 5th.
Dara Dever reached the final of the Senior 50m Breaststroke and Jimmy Wiseman and Zoe Davis were reserve finalists in the Senior and U. 15 Butterfly events respectively.

Other swimmers to represent the club were:
Conal Joyce, Patrick Wiseman, Sarah Wiseman, Avril Egan and Michael Walls.
In the Freestyle Relay events, the Senior Boys 4x25m team of Cian Holland, Colm Garrick, Jimmy Wiseman and Michael Walls took gold. The Boys U. 15 4x25m team of Darragh Quinn, Brian Moran, Anthony English and Conal Joyce took silver.
The Girls U. 15 4x25m team of Laura Keaveney, Zoe Davis, Sarah Wiseman and Avril Egan came 4th as did the Jumbo Relay team which included U.13: Shenagh O’Byrne and Conal Joyce, U.15: Laura Keaveney and Darragh Quinn and Senior: Jill Magee and Cian Holland.
