A Connaught Region B &C Gala was hosted by Claremorris on Sunday 26th January and swimmers from the Castlebar Club were in fine form with many recording personal best times and winning medal performances. The swimmers scooped a total of 23 medals, 8 gold, 11 silver, and 4 bronze. In addition 2 relay teams took gold and 1 team bronze. “A” certificates were awarded to Conal Joyce U 13 Breaststroke, Rory Grier Gavin U 13 Breaststroke, Fionnuala Quinn U 13 Freestyle and Emma Hynes U 13 Freestyle. “B” Category Gold Nicholas Quinn U11 F/S Annie McCormick U 11 F/S and U 11 Br/st James Caulfield U 13 F/S Liam McLoughlin U 15 F/S Brian McDonagh U 15 Br/st Aisling Walls U 15 Br/st Maebh Garrick U 15 F/S Silver Elaine Joyce U 15 F/S and Br/st Nicholas Quinn U 11 Br/st Sally Cunniffe U 11 Br/st James Caulfield U 13 Br/st Emma Hynes U 13 Br/st Fergus Sweeney U15 Br/st Bronze Fergus Sweeny “C” Category Silver Katie Costello U 11 F/S Paula O'Neill U 15 F/s Vickie Staunton U 11 Br/st Charles O’ Malley U 15 Br/st Paula O’ Neill U15 F/S Bronze Tony Sweeny U 11 F/S and U 11 Br/St Katie Costello U 11 Br/St Relay Teams In the relay events the boys U 11 (Rory Tuohy, Tony Sweeney, Nicholas Quinn and Diarmuid Joyce) took gold as did the girls (Annie McCormick, Vickie Staunton, Katie Costello and Sally Cunniffe). The girls U 13 relay team took bronze – Emma Hynes, Ellen Cahill, Juliet Connaughton and Fionnuala Quinn. The swimmers achievements showed the results of the recent training during their Christmas camps and it is well done Swimmers and the good coaching from Marian Cunniffe , Joe Moran and Jackie Hynes.
