Many Grade “A” swimmers from Castlebar Swimming Club were in action at the “RAGS” Gala in Athlone on Saturday 9th March and as usual gave a good account of themselves.
In Individual events the Castlebar Club took 2 GOLD, 3 SILVER AND 6 BRONZE medalsand in relays 1 team took GOLD and 2 took SILVER.
RESULTS:
Gold Medallists: Cian Holland – Senior 100m Freestyle and
Darragh Quinn – U. 16 100m Breaststroke.
Silver: Jimmy Wiseman – Senior 100m Butterfly,
James Sweeney – U. 12 100m Breaststroke and
Cian Holland - Senior 100m Breaststroke.
Bronze: Natalie Bourke – U. 12 100m Butterfly,
Jill Magee – U. 16 100m Freestly and Backstroke,
Anthony English – U. 14 100m Breaststroke,
Dara Dever – Senior 100m Breaststroke and
Colm Garrick – Senior 100m Backstroke.
Other finalists and their respective events were:
Aisling Bourke – U. 12 100m Butterfly,
Darragh Quinn – U. 16 100m Butterfly,
Sarah Wiseman – U. 16 Butterfly,
Patrick Wiseman – U. 12 Freestyle and Backstroke,
Anthony English – U. 14 Freestyle,
Laura Keaveney – U. 14 Freestyle,
Zoe Davis – U. 14 Freestyle and Breaststroke,
Colm Garrick – Senior Freestyle,
Ciaran Garrick – Senior Freestlye and Backstroke,
Jimmy wiseman – Senior Breaststroke and
Brian Moran – U. 16 Backstroke.
In the Relay events, the Senior Boys team of Cian Holland, Colm Garrick, Ciaran Garrick and Jimmy Wiseman took GOLD and the Girls U. 14 team of Avril Egan, Aisling Walls, Zoe Davis and Laura Keaveney took SILVER as did the Boys U. 16 team of Brian Moran, Anthony English, Darragh Quinn and Patrick Wiseman.


It was also a busy weekend for the B and C swimmers who werein action in Ballina on Sunday March 10th.
Again the Castlebar Swimmers brought home the medals after some fine swims and tough competition.

James Sweeney – U. 11 Backstroke,
Conal Joyce – U. 13 100m Backstroke and
Richard Martin – Senior 100m Breaststroke.

“B” category:
GOLD: Katie Tuohy – U. 13 100m Breaststroke AND
Liam McLoughlin – Senior 100m Breaststroke.
SILVER: Emma Hynes – U. 11 100m Breaststroke and
Brian McDonagh – Senior 100m Breaststroke.
BRONZE: Eleanor Grier-Gavin – U. 13 100m Backstroke,
Stephanie Ford – U. 11 100m Breaststroke and
James Caulfield – U. 11 100m Breaststroke.
“C” category:
GOLD: Juliet Connaughton – U. 13 100m Backstroke,
Eva Walls – Senior 100m Backstroke and
Nicholas Quinn – U. 11 100m Backstroke.
SILVER: James Caulfield – U. 11 100m Backstroke,
Charles O’Malley – U. 13 100m Backstroke.
BRONZE: Sally Cunniffe – U. 11 100m Breaststroke and
Nicholas Quinn – U. 11 100m Breaststroke and
Bryan Walls – Senior 100m Breaststroke.

In the Relay events, the Castlebar Club swept the Board and showed just what strength and depth they have in all the age groups.

GOLD went to
U. 13 Girls: Sarah Caulfield, Katie Tuohy, Fionnuala Quinn and Eleanor Grier-Gavin.
Senior Girls: Eva Walls, Aisling Walls, Laura Sweeney and Doireann Dever.
Senior Boys: Bryan Walls, Liam McLoughlin, Brian McDonagh and Richard Martin.
And SILVER went to
U. 11 Girls: Stephanie Ford, Katie Costelloe, Sally Cunniffe and Aisling Granahan.
U. 11 Boys: James Caulfield, Nicholas Quinn, Diarmaid Joyce and Edward O’Byrne.
