Success for Castlebar Swimmers at Irish Age Groups Division 2 !!

12 Swimmers representing Castlebar Swimming were in action at the Irish Age Groups Division 2, which was held in Athlone pool, from Friday 28th to Sunday 30th of June. Castlebar Swimmers did themselves and their Club proud, with many achieving personal best times, reaching finals and securing medals as they did so.

Star performers were Micheal Walls who took Gold in the U/16 100m breaststroke, Gold in the 100m butterfly and bronze in the 200m I.M, Micheal also reached the final of the 100m backcrawl were he came 5th and was reserve finalist in the 100m freestyle.

Sarah Wiseman was also in brilliant form as she took bronze in the U/15 200 Freestyle, in a national qualifying time, Sarah also took bronze in the 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle events. She reached the final of the 100m backcrawl where she came 6th and was reserve finalist for the 100m breaststroke.

Anthony English destroyed the field as he took Gold in the U/14 100m breaststroke.

Sarah Caulfield took a well deserved bronze in the U/13 100m breaststroke.

Ciara Mc Gowan was in fine form coming 4th in the 100m breaststroke, 4th in the 200m I.M, 5th in the 100m freestyle and 5th in the 200m freestyle, Ciara was also reserve finalist in the 100m butterfly.

Avril Egan came 4th in the U/14 100m freestyle and was reserve finalist in the 100m breaststroke.

Conal Joyce reached the final of the U/12 100m butterfly where he came 6th .

Other reserve finalists were :

Eleaner Grier Gavin:U/13 100m breaststroke,

Patrick Wiseman:U/12 100m freestyle,

Brian Moran:U/15 100m backcrawl.

KatieTuohy and Natalie Bourke, competing in the U/12 category, completed the line up of the Castlebar Swimmers.

CASTLEBAR SWIMMERS FINISH IN STYLE.

Swimmers from Castlebar Swimming Club travelled to the new pool in the Regional Sports Centre, Athlone on Saturday, June 15th to take part in the last "B & C" graded gala of the season.
This gala featured all four strokes and catered for clubs from all the Connaught Regions; hence the competition was very tough and the Castlebar swimmers certainly held their own in a highly competitive field.

The swimmers earned a total of 5 "A" Certs, 7 Gold, 6 Silver and 5 Bronze medals in individual events, and 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze in relay events.

In the Relay events, the U.13 Girls Freestyle Team of Katie Tuohy, Fionnuala Quinn, Sarah Caulfield and Eleanor Grier-Gavin took GOLD in a most exciting race.

The U.11 Girls Freestyle Relay Team of Annie McCormack, Sally Cunniffe, Stephanie Ford and Leagh O'Byrne took SILVER as did
The U.11 Boys Freestyle Relay Team which included James Caulfield, Rory Tuohy, Nicholas Quinn and Edward O'Byrne.

The U.11 Girls Medley Relay Team of Emma Hynes, Annie McCormack, Sally Cunniffe and Stephanie Ford took BRONZE.

So the season is winding down for many of the "B" and "C" swimmers but to the 12 swimmers who have qualified for the Irish Age Groups, Division 2, to be held in Athlone from Friday June 28th to Sunday June 30th, we wish all the very best.

The 5 swimmers who have qualified for the Irish Age Groups, Division 1, to be held in Ennis July 11th to 14th, are in full swing as they prepare for that event, as are those who have qualified for the Nationals and the National Finals of the Community Games. We wish them all well with their preparations.
