Tuam Gala

Castlebar Swimming Club travelled to Tuam to take part in a 2-Day “A” gala on 8th & 9th November which featured all four strokes and relay events. The competition was tough as it catered for all the Connacht clubs, but our swimmers as usual showed their mettle with many personal best times and Division 2 qualifying times achieved.

The following were Gold Medal winners in their individual events;

Laura English – Womens Senior 100m Breaststroke
Colm Garrick – Mens Senior 100m Backstroke
Sarah Caulfield – U 15 Breaststroke

Silver Medal Winners -
Nicholas Quinn – U11 100m Fly
Darragh Quinn – Mens Senior Fly & 100m Breaststroke
Laura Keaveney – U15 100m Fly
Annie McCormack – U11 100m Backstroke

Bronze Medal Winners –
Annie McCormack – U11 100m Freestyle
Aisling Bourke – U13 100m Breaststroke
Brian Moran – Mens Senior 100m Backstroke
Laura English – Womens Senior 100m Backstroke

The following made reserve finalists in their respective events Annie McCormack U11 Breaststroke, Natalie Bourke U13 100m Backstroke, Laura Keaveney U15 100m Freestyle

Relay Team Strike Gold.
In the team relay events the Mens Senior Freestyle squad of Darragh Quinn, Brian Moran, Anthony English and Colm Garrick took gold in an exciting race.

The Girls U 13 Freestyle squad of Emma Hynes, Natalie Bourke, Aisling Bourke and Stephanie Ford took silver, as did the Womens squad team of Laura Keaveney, Laura English, Katie Tuohy and Sarah Caulfield. The Girls U 15 freestyle squad of Meabh Garrick, Sarah Caulfield, Natalie Bourke and Laura Keaveney also took silver in a very close finish.

Bronze medals were won by Boys U13 Freestyle squad of James Caulfield, James Sweeney, Conal Joyce and Patrick Wiseman in a time of 2.09.26 as did the U13 Medley squad of Katie Tuohy, Natalie Bourke, Ashling Bourke and Stephanie Ford beating of opposition from Longford, Laser , Sligo and Tuam..

Other individual performances of note included Rory Grier-Gavin, Fergus Sweeney, Elaine Joyce, Zoe Davis, Eleanor Grier-Gavin, Dara Dever, Sarah Wiseman, Ciara McGowan, Katie Costelloe, Fionnuala Quinn, and Rory Tuohy.

For the first competitive A Gala since the swimmers started back in training these results show good potential for further success in the season to come.
