Castlebar Swimming Club
Success for Castlebar Swimmers at Athlone Meet.

A group of 25 swimmers from the Castlebar Swimming Club travelled to Athlone on Saturday 6th March to compete at the 2nd Annual Invitation Meet in the Regional Sports Centre.

A total of 14 medals were bagged by the Castlebar swimmers to include 2 Gold, 5 Silver and 7 Bronze. Other clubs to participate included Galway, Laser, Shark, Tuam, Claremorris, Sligo, Longford, Roscommon and Westport.

The following swimmers all reached finals in their individual events with many personal best times recorded -
Sally Cunniffe took 4th place in U11 100m Fly, Stephanie Ford was 4th fastest in both the U13 Fly and Br/St. Natalie Bourke finished in 4th in the U15 Backstroke and 5th in U15 Fly and recorded personal best time in both swims. Emma Hynes took 5th place in the Freestyle final with a 3 second P.B. Annie McCormack came 5th in U13 Backstroke final again in a personal best time. Darragh Quinn took 5th in 100m Backstroke with Fergus Sweeney taking 5th position in U15 Br/St. James Caulfield came in 5th in U13 Br/.st in a personal best time. Laura Keaveney finished in 5th place in the Freestyle final. Fionnuala Quinn swimming in U15 Fly 100m took 6th place and was 2nd reserve finalist in Br/St. Aisling Bourke finished in 6th position in 100m U15 Br./St. Dara Dever took 6th place in 100m Freestyle with Anthony English making reserve finalist in 100m Br/St. Aisling Walls finished 6th in 100m Br/st. Brian Moran took 6th in 100m Backstroke. Conal Joyce made reserve finalist in Boys U 15 Fly a had a good swim in 100m Freestyle



Good swims were recorded from Katie Tuohy U15 100m Br/St & Fly, Maebh Garrick U15 Br/St and Freestyle. Rory Grier –Gavin 100 M Fly & 100M Freestyle and Patrick Wiseman U15 110m Fly & Freestyle. Elenor Grier-Gavin, Aisling Bourke and Aisling Walls U15 100m Freestyle. Brian Moran 100m Freestyle. . Rory Tuohy U13 Backstroke &Freestyle. Emma Hynes U13 Backstroke, Fergus Sweeney U15 Freestyle.


The highlight of the relay teams was the U13 4x50m Medley relay of Sally Cunniffe, Annie McCormack, Stephanie Ford and Emma Hynes who took Gold, this was followed by Bronze winners in the U13 Boys 4x50m team medley of James Sweeney, James Caulfield, Nicholas Quinn and Rory Tuohy and Boys team 4x50 Medley of Darragh Quinn, Dara Dever, Brian Moran, Anthony English.

A busload of tired but satisfied swimmers returned to Castlebar and once again well done to one and all.
