Castlebar Chamber of Commerce is presently organising the fitting of
Christmas lights with the switch on taking place in the first week of
December. This year the Chamber is erecting a number of major features at junctions and strategic locations around the town. The plan was to have the entire town rewired for a new lighting scheme, to include a background
music system, but unfortunately the Chamber was unable to have the
necessary work completed for this Christmas.

"Everyone agrees that a good lighting scheme creates a good atmosphere for business and brings people to Castlebar" stated Oliver Kelleher, President of the Chamber of Commerce." For this reason the Chamber are asking all businesses in town to make a special effort this year to light up their premises. To encourage this, the Chamber will be presenting special awards to the businesses, which make the best efforts " he said.

The categories of awards will be as follows:

Category 1: Best Illuminated Premises.
Category 2: Most Unusual Outdoors Feature.
Category 3: Best Lighted Window Display

The winner of each category will receive a prize of Eur200 and a Chamber of Commerce Wall Plaque.

Oliver Kelleher has encouraged every business to enter into the spirit of
event and make a special effort with the lighting up of their premises.
Christmas lighting features are available to purchase in a number of
premises in town and Oliver suggested that, as there will be no door to
door collection by the Chamber this year, that businesses could use this money to purchase Christmas lighting features for their own premises.

The Chamber of Commerce would like to extend seasons greetings to all and look forward to a bumper Christmas trade in the town over the next month.
