Castlebar's Joanne Maloney in winning position for Charity Hero Award 2012

Castlebar Woman Joanne Maloney has been nominated for a Charity Hero Award for 2012. This is a national public voting competition therefore it is momumental that a local girl has generated such support for her voluntary efforts
Joanne is a true inspiration having turned a series of unfortunate events into something truely positive. Joanne knows loss and suffering only too well and has transformed her story into a little glimmer of hope for the rest of us.

In dealing with her own challenges Joanne created a book for The Irish Cancer Society called Quoted Moments which has already raised in excess of €10000 and was launched by An Taoiseach last July.

She organises an annual Masquerade Ball for the charity with this years event being held in Breaffy House Events Arena on December 15th.

Joanne was also a committee member of Relay for Life in Castlebar, which raised in excess of €48000.

All of this work is done voluntarily and is for The Irish Cancer Society, a charity very close to her heart, against a disease that affects the masses.

On winning this title Joanne will gain an additional €1000 for the charity of her choice.

The winner will be announced on December 6th.
