Karen Community celebrates 10 years of peaceful living in Mayo

We, Karen refugees from Myanmar arrived to Ireland at the end of 2007 through the UNHCR programme. Karen ethnic people fled violence across the Thai-Myanmar boarder because of the ongoing military attacks over the last 60 years.

By the grace of god, the Irish government welcomed us here, supported and looked after us. It is now ten years as we live in County Mayo in peace and integration. It was a very positive experience for the community: our people go to schools and work, we celebrated weddings and grieved on funerals with our Irish friends, we keep our culture and tradition always open to share it with Mayo people.

As a part of Karen Baptist Fellowship we made the thanksgiving music album dedicated to our 10 years anniversary. The album will be launched at the Linenhall, Castlebar on the 18th September starting at 8pm. All songs are written and performed by the Karen youth from County Mayo. We cordially invite everyone to join us at our CD launch and showcase of Karen community talent and culture.

Yours sincerely,

Karen Community County Mayo
