By Michelle Rooney
11, May 2011 - 14:52

Mayo Intercultural Action is delivering an exciting new integration project called ‘Different Together'. The project aims to build the capacity of refugees to become actively involved in their local communities and to promote greater integration in Co. Mayo. This innovative project is aiming to build strong and sustainable communities for all people who live in Co. Mayo.

As part of the ‘Different Together' project, Mayo Intercultural Action (MIA) will be delivering Community Work in a Changing Ireland, which is a course accredited with National University of Ireland, Maynooth. On completing the course project participants will understand issues impacting on different communities in Co. Mayo, and will understand the principles and themes of Community Work.

MIA is being supported under the European Refugee Fund to deliver this project. MIA is amongst a small number of organisations in the country which supports asylum-seekers and refugees that has been awarded this funding. In the delivery of the ‘Different Together' project MIA is working in collaboration with partner organisations in Co. Mayo such as the Mayo County Development Board, Mayo Rape Crisis Centre and GMIT amongst many others. MIA is very grateful to the many partner organisations for their support of the project.

Mayo Intercultural Action is holding a coffee morning on Friday 13th May at 11am in the office at Hill House, Mountain View, Castlebar, Co. Mayo. This is an opportunity for people to find out more information about the project and to have their questions answered. If you are unable to come to the coffee morning please contact Michelle Rooney from MIA on 094 9044511/086 0406134, or drop into the office at any time for more information.
