14, Mar 2009 - 10:35

International Women’s Day was a celebrated in style recently in Mayo Intercultural Action. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase some of the wonderful projects undertaken by women from the craft circle in MIA and the direct provision hostel in Ballyhaunis in the past few months. Carmel Balfe and Merovee Guerin, community artists who worked on these projects with MIA, both spoke about the work and the wonderful experience for everyone involved.

Women from many different nationalities were in attendance, including, Burma, Nigeria, Kenya, New Zealand, Poland, Russia and Ireland. The relaxed informal atmosphere was enhanced by wonderful culinary offerings and a deep understanding that despite our different backgrounds we all recognise what it means to be a woman living in Mayo in 2009.
