By Michael Mc Tigue
4, Apr 2012 - 14:53

Monday night April 2nd saw the set-up/information meeting for The Castlebar Men`s Shed get on the way.

Interest was keen as a Michael Mc Tigue , chairperson addressed the crowd giving a presentation on the concept behind Men`s Sheds, the provision of a safe environment where men of all ages with time on their hands can gather to work together and socialise together enhancing the wellbeing of all involved. He stressed that in the times we live in today we have to look after ourselves and look out for one another.

Paul Gillen and Laurence Gaughan from the (HSE) re-echoed the importance of looking after our mental health and the important role that projects like the Men`s Sheds play in this.

Michael Tiernan (Galway Shed) and Ivan Beatty (Ballina Shed) spoke of their positive experiences and the value of Men`s Sheds to the community.

The question remains , What Happens Next ?

Firstly a second meeting is arranged for Monday April 16th at 7.30pm in Le Cheile FRC where the core group from the first meeting along with any other interested parties will meet to elect a committee and get things moving.

Secondly the group are on the lookout for a Space they can call their own to take this project to the next level.

Thirdly the group will be investigating every avenue open to them with regards to funding to make this good idea a great reality for our community.

The meeting ended with a cup of tea ,a chat and an open invitation inviting any interested men out there with time on their hands to come along to the next meeting and get involved.

Thanks is expressed to Ann Conway and the staff of Le Cheile FRC for their continued support.

Next Meeting Monday April 16th 7.30pm. Le Cheile FRC. Castlebar.
