It's that time of year again plans are well in place for the Achill roar which takes place this year on Saturday September 10th.

Over the years the Achill roar event has established itself as one of the "big ones" on the West of Ireland circuit and for the past number of months Race Director Mr Paul Mahon and his team have been busy to ensure that this year's event will be the best to date.

Road safety will be promoted at this years event, the organisers have linked up with the Road Safety Officer for Mayo County Council and all finishers will receive a hi-visibility items for all those people who go out on the road whether running, jogging, walking or cycling provided by the RSA.

Speaking recently Mr Paul Mahon was very anxious to point out that the Achill roar race is an event that is open to all. "while we attract most of the top athletes from around the Country its always an event that appeals to all those who wish to run , jog or walk the scenic and varied course one does not need to be a member of a club or group to participate" he said.

"We are delighted to promote road safety at our event, changing people's attitudes towards road safety is a big challenge. There are still far too many people out there who think it's OK to speed, when evidence and research shows it clearly is not OK," said Mr Paul Mahon.

The Achill Roar has turned into one of the best race weekends of the Season, with a fantastic location at Keel on Achill Island.

So get into gear and make 2011 the year that you joined hundreds of more people to complete this exciting event.
