Castlebar Cycling Club Update   21/04/2009

The Club has had a very busy and productive start to the 2009 season.

The club has participated in a large number of events including the Cycleways Cup, Round 1 of the Mayo League, Limerick GP, Ras Mumhan 4 Day Stage Race, Des Hanlon Memorial Race, the Stamullen GP and the four Connaught Training Races.

Highlights of these events include John Jennings, Jack Sheeran, Mary Brennan and Cian Gavin placing in the top ten of the Mayo League Round 1 and Paul Dunne's late attack in Limerick which almost netted him a top ten placing. Patrick Clarke's strong ride to get in the break on Day 3 should also be noted. Round 2 of the Mayo League also showed a strong performance by club members with Paul Murray taking fourth place on his racing debut and Albert Morrow taking a fine second place. Chris Coyle netted a fine 7th 'B' in Stamullen followed closely by Chris Troy in 8th.

The club has also been strengthened by a large number of new members making their racing and training debuts this season. Bernard Twoomey, Ciaran Clarke, Sinead Roche, Trevor Rennick, Paul Murray, Luke Benson, Paul McDonagh and Ken Moran have all recently started racing. The club also has very strong youth squad and they have impressed all club members with their hard training and good manners. The club has now 103 registered members and continues to grow!

Recent events on the cycling calendar included the first round of the Connaught Time Trial League, on Tuesday the 20th of April at 7pm., the first round of the Tour de Turlough which takes place in Castlebar on Friday the 24th of April, the West Coast Wheelers Open Race in Maam on Sunday the 26th of April.
