FÁS Course in Erris Arts Centre A Certificate in Performing Arts course - an exciting new local training initiative created by FÁS andMuintearas - will be starting in Áras Inis Gluaire on Monday, 12 th July.


The course is FETAC Level 5 and it will take place in Áras Inis Gluaire, Belmullet (located in the new civic centre in the town).


The course, which will run for six months, involves eight FETAC modules: Theatre Performance; EventProduction; Communications; Work Experience; Safety and Health at Work; Sound Engineering and Production; Stage Management and Administration; and Radio Programme Production.


There is a substantial element of work experience, requiring participants to have a hands-on role in Áras Inis Gluaire - this will range from assisting in productions, organising open days, workshops and exhibitions, overseeing safety and procedure during performances, taking bookings, managing attendance spread sheets, developing media campaigns, welcoming visiting companies, as well as achieving personally defined goals within the setting of a busy theatre and arts centre.


Participants on this course will be supported by a training supervisor, as well as an assistant supervisor. There are still some places remaining on this course.
Applicants are required to be under the age of 35.

    • Áras Inis Gluaire was officially opened by President Mary McAleese / an tUachtarán MáireMhic Giolla Íos on 21 st April 2007.
    • The construction of Áras Inis Gluaire, which is built on the grounds of the town's old footballpark, came about as a result of several years' tireless work of local volunteers.
    • Áras Inis Gluaire comprises of: a 170-seat auditorium (for theatre and cinema), dressingrooms, an exhibition space, recording studios, administration space, a reception and caféarea.
    • Áras Inis Gluaire has hosted several performances and workshops, and is also the home of Pictiúrlann Iorrais, the local film club.
    • The local radio station, Iorras FM, has aired live from Áras Inis Gluaire's recording studios.
    • There have been numerous art and photographic exhibitions in the exhibition space at Áras Inis Gluaire, including a National Photographic Archive exhibition.
    • Since its opening, Áras Inis Gluaire has hosted hundreds of concerts, performances and gigs,including those by: Sean Keane, Damien Dempsey, Mick Flannery, Dragonfly Theatre, the ErrisPlayers, Eleanor McEvoy, The David Munnelly Band, comedian Jon Kenny, Phoenix Theatre,Matt Cunningham, the Halloran Brothers, Blackheart, Yew Tree Theatre Company, CityTheatre Dublin, National Youth Orchestra of Ireland, the Garda Band, Eleanor Shanley, Liam Óg Ó'Flynn, Paddy Glackin, Mairéad and Tríona Ní Dhomhaill, the Fanzini Brothers, Ceolas, Peadar King, and Dick Gaughan.
