Saturday January 8th the opening ceremony of the Cork 2005 European City of Culture celebrations. This picture is taken in almost pitch darkness. It is illuminated by the firework display over the north channel of the River Lee. Not the first time it was lit on a Saturday night in January.

This picture gives a better perspective than the previous one of the actual darkness. Both shots were taken outside St Marys Church on Popes Quay. (No one was injured.)

Some boats in Kilalla Harbour sheltering from the recent storms.

drumbeg_dec_21st.jpg
December 21st at sunset at Drumbeg Stone Circle. This picture is misleading because it's twi light - once every eight years the sun shines through the two axial stones of this stone circle In Glandore West Cork. This is one of the finest examples of a stone circle left in Ireland. Tragically the skys are normally covered with clouds around sunset on December 21st. The sun shines through the Newgrange at sunrise, but as with many other things in Cork they designed it backwards!

Finally this is what a December sunset looks like on the south coast. This picture was taken looking out towards the Kinsale gas field on Owenahincha beach near Rosscarbery Co Cork.
