A Healthy School Lunch
28, Aug 2008 - 20:47

At this time of year parents again consider the problem of providing a healthy school lunch for their children. Often, time pressures mean that they hand over money to the child with the warning to buy a sandwich or whatever but invariably the children spend the money on junk.

Now Gavin's in Spencer Street have come up with an answer that will appeal to most parents - Lunch Vouchers that can be purchased either on the morning or in advance.

For a EUR2.50 voucher the  child will be entitled to:

  • A drink (Water 250 ml)
  • A Yogurt (Glenisk Organic)
  • Fruit (Apple, Satsuma or Banana)
  • A Roll with one of the following: Ham, Tuna, Chicken, Turkey, Cheese, Salad or just butter (freshly made on collection)
    • Soft or crispy rolls available.

Paul Rodgers said "I was very conscious of children coming into the shop and buying things like sweets and fizzy drinks for their lunch even though I would feel that they had been told to buy a sandwich or the like and I was powerless to stop them. Now I feel that we are giving parents an alternative."
