Know the Signs of Heart Attack

The recent campaign on Heart Attack Awareness in Mayo, by local Heart & Stroke Charity, Croí, is continuing to promote its key message of ‘Know the Signs of Heart Attack and Take Immediate Action by calling 999 or 112' and to strengthen this message, Croí, in collaboration with Mayo PCCC, HSE West and Mayo General Hospital have just announced the details of a public talk which will be addressed by a leading consultant from University Hospital, Galway.

This public talk entitled ‘Heart Attack... Know the Signs and What to Do - It could Save your Life!' will take place on Wednesday night 6^th November in the TF Royal Hotel, Castlebar at 8pm. The guest speaker is Dr. Jim Crowley, Consultant Cardiologist. Admission is free and all are welcome. No booking is required.

Speaking about this initiative Croí Nurse, Ailish Houlihan said "The main aim of this campaign is to raise awareness about heart attack. We are encouraging everyone in the county to learn the main signs and symptoms of heart attack and to take immediate action by phoning 999 or 112 for an ambulance, if you suspect that you, or a family member, may be having a heart attack. We are still seeing too many cases where people wait too long to take appropriate action. The important message with Heart Attack is that minutes matter! Taking immediate action and getting to the hospital quickly, means you will have access to a wider range of treatment options and reduce your risk of complications following heart attack."

This heart attack campaign is a first of its kind in Ireland, and is currently being piloted in Mayo as part of the ongoing partnership between Croí and Mayo HSE on the ‘Mayo Action on Heart Disease & Stroke' programme, which aims to reduce the impact of heart disease and stroke in the county.
